A NEW GREEN HEART FOR NORTH ACTON

Our vision for One Portal Way is to create a new green heart for North Acton to meet the diverse needs of existing and future communities. It has the potential to knit together other local developments to create a vibrant hub with something for everyone.

New green heart for North Acton

Sustainability sits at the heart of our vision, including the creation of a new landscaped square at the centre of our site, the green heart. This will be a garden with large trees, flowerbeds and lawns, and cater to a range of needs and activities. The green heart will also serve as a civic area, providing a space for the community to come together, as well as establishing clear routes to local transport hubs for visitors to the area.

2023 Outline Permission

Planning approval was granted in 2023 for our masterplan for One Portal Way, following extensive public consultation. On completion, the plans will create a new green heart for North Acton – providing over 1,300 homes, green public spaces, workspace and shops on a brownfield site. Imperial is a long-term investor in North Acton, having already delivered new developments at 140 Wales Farm Road and the Woodward Buildings, and approval for this central site is an exciting milestone for the regeneration of the area.

You can view the consented application by visiting the OPDC’s planning register here, and searching for the reference number 21/0181/OUTOPDC. A direct link to the application is here.

2025 meanwhile use application

In early October 2025, the OPDC approved our planning application for a new ‘meanwhile’ (temporary) use to activate the site while the permanent One Portal Way masterplan is built. This facility will house science and technology start-ups, providing flexible workspace for growing businesses helping them to scale up.

2026 Update Application

Since the original application was proposed, Imperial College London have identified an increased need for student accommodation. In response to this demand, we’ve updated our permanent plans for One Portal Way to provide more student accommodation, including at affordable rents.

In particular, Buildings E and F have been re-positioned to accommodate more student rooms, 35% of which will be available at affordable rents, transitioning from the original permission which included build-to-rent homes as well as flexibility for co-living or student studios.

We’re targeting a Section 73 Application in March 2026. In the meantime, do visit our 2026 Update tab for further details and our Have Your Say tab to ask any questions, and our FAQ’s tab if you’re unsure about anything regarding the application.
